Joining the SPA team is by far and away the best decision I’ve ever made with regards to my training
I’d been competing in functional fitness for just shy of 4years and had programme hopped for pretty much the entire time.
Because of that I was seeing little progress in the gym despite training 2 hours per day, 5x per week
As a front line healthcare worker my work is stressful at times which meant that when I got to the gym the last thing I wanted to do was 'think' about what I should be working on, I just wanted to train and destress
We worked with Maggs to ensure that all he now had to do was SHOW UP. The thought of having to think about what to do when he got to the gym wasn't there anymore, the SPA took that stress away, which allowed Maggs to fully focus on getting to the gym, doing the work and then recovering after.
We also gave Maggs specific movement primers and cues especially for his weightlifting movements in order to correct previously poor technique & positions.
In short, Maggs is a new athlete.
In terms of gymnastics we've doubled his previous capacity on ring muscle ups, chest to bar and handstand push ups as well as shaving over a minute off his 50 pull ups for time score and learning to Handstand walk over obstacles
Weightlifting wise Maggs has now put 30kg on his weightlifting total in the space of a year as well as turning his old 1 rep maxes in the squat and bench into his 5 rep max whilst also hitting a 30kg deadlift PB
He's fitter too - with massively improved scores in the CrossFit open
